Born Oct. 20, 1960, in Belvidere, the daughter of George and Frances Toomey. She attended Belvidere schools. Married Jerry J. Maleck on May 3, 1997, in Rockton. Monica was a longtime and well loved bus driver for School District 100 and loved the kids she drove. Even though she fought a long courageous battle with cancer, she didn't let that keep her down. She was a prolific crafter, avid gardener and she designed a shirt for the Cancer Society. She loved animals and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Survivors include husband, Jerry J. Maleck of Belvidere; sons, Corey Boettcher of Fargo, N.D., Kyle Boettcher of Belvidere, Chad (Holly) Boettcher of Loves Park and Kerry Boettcher of Belvidere; grandchildren, Audrey, Christian and Anna, Addyson, Nathan and Brooke; mother, Frances Toomey of Belvidere; brother, Wesley Bay-lander of Florida; sisters, Becky (Tom) DeVlieger of Rockford and Dawn (Jerry Brenz) Brinkmeyer of Roscoe; uncle, Ellis (Jenifer) Baylander; father- and mother-in-law, John and Jan Maleck of Belvidere; sisters-in-law, Sheryl Carlton and Wendy (David) Keating; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by father, George Toomey, and grandmother, Clara Baylander.

Service at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, in Belvidere Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Bateman officiating. Interment in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, in the funeral home. A memorial is being established in her memory.
