RICHARD E. EVANS

Richard E. Evans, son of John R. and Lucy Evans, was born November 22, 1868, at Bridgewater, Missouri, and passed quietly and peacefully from this life on October 28, 1948.

He was united in marriage to Ellen Ann Houghton December 7, 1896, at Rathbun, Iowa. To this union were born six children, all of whom mourn the passing of their father. They are John Evans and Jessie Dunlap, of Corydon; William and Tom Evans, of Chariton; James Evans of San Diego, Calif.; and Margory Sipes, of Chariton, with whom he made his home after the death of his wife.

Mrs. Evans preceded him in death December 31, 1944.

Mr. Evans was one of a family of nine children, all of whom preceded him but one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Evans, of Lucas, Iowa.

He also leaves to mourn his passing 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Evans was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church. He was a member of the United Mine Workers and was employed in the mines of Lucas county for many years.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 31, at 2:00 o'clock at the Downs funeral home. Elder John Blackstock, of the Latter Day Saints church officiated. Burial was made in the Chariton cemetery.
