Clarence Alvin Brunson, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away Oct. 12, 2010, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of congestive heart failure.
Alvin was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Fillmore, Utah, to Clarence Otto Brunson and Ruth Louise Hofer Brunson. He grew up in Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School.
Alvin served in the National Guard and in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in Germany during World War II. Alvin was an interpreter in Germany and was fluent in German. He received his training as a machinist in the Army.
On Nov. 11, 1955, he married Lucy Gwendolyn Cox in Shelley, Idaho. They lived in Groveland, Ammon and Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on March 6, 1999. Alvin was a longtime employee of the city of Idaho Falls as a welder, machinist and mechanic.
Alvin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a high priest in his ward. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, helping, working on genealogy and spending time with his family.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lucy; four sons, Terry (Linda) Brunson of Blackfoot, Burdette (Tracy) Brunson of Darlington, Idaho, Clarence R. (Barbi) Brunson of Idaho Falls and Christopher (Brandy) Brunson of Hillsboro, Ore.; five daughters, Corein (Dan) Christiansen of Phoenix, Clarice (Dennis) Mechling of Idaho Falls, Coleen (Don) Gore of Edwardsville, Ill., Celia (Thomas) Beasley of Riverton, Wyo., Carolyn (Ted) Neal of Yorktown, Ind.; two brothers, Melvin "Dick" (Millie) Brunson of Idaho Falls and Owen (Inge) Brunson of Blackfoot; a sister, Winona (Hank) Crumb of Idaho Falls; 55 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Ruth Brunson; a sister, Donna Renaud; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
