This memorial is erected in loving memory of WILLIAM EDWARD WARNER Gunner 2/1. Essex Battery, R.F.A. died of wounds received in action June 6th 1917 at the beginning of the Battle of Messines His body is buried at Hop Store Cemetery,Vlamertinghe,age 22 years.
He heard the call of duty and obeyed; he fought to shield the weak against the strong in Belgium; he found a soldier's grave that right might be triumphant over wrong; he fought the fight that men might still be free; he gave up home and kindred, gave his life and future generations; yet to be; will reap the harvest at his sacrifice.
