MT. VERNON — Mary Louise Moore Temple was born July 16, 1915, in Carbondale, the daughter of Grover C. and Pearl (Jennings) Stockman.
She grew up in Centralia and moved to Washington, D.C. in 1936 where she worked in the U.S. Treasury Department. On May 14, 1939, she married Glenn Ellis Moore in Centralia. They lived in Arlington, Va., while he served in the Navy at the Naval Observatory and she continued to work at the Treasury Department.
She and Glenn moved to Benton in 1945, to Springfield in 1950 and to Mt. Vernon in 1953, when Glenn joined the law firm of Craig & Craig.
Mary Louise attended MacMurray College and graduated from SIU-Carbondale. She taught school in Mt. Vernon. Her passion was contract bridge. She served as an officer in the state and local chapters of the American Contract Bridge League; she participated and managed numerous bridge tournaments and achieved the Life Master ranking. Mary Louise and Glenn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their entire family in Sun River, Ore., in 1989.
Glenn predeceased Mary Louise in 1991. On Feb. 14, 1994, Mary Louise married Harry Temple in Mt. Vernon. They lived in Salem and Florida.
She is survived by two sons, Glenn E. Moore Jr. and wife Widney of Portland, Ore., and William S. Moore and wife Janet of Chevy Chase, Md.; four grandsons, Scott Moore and wife Valerie Wasserman of Bellevue, Wash., James Moore and wife Lauren of Palo Alto, Calif., Duncan Moore of Seattle, Wash., and Joel Moore and wife Raga Ramachandra of San Francisco, Calif.; one granddaughter, Lindsay Moore of Washington, D.C.; five great-grandchildren; and two stepdaughters, Suzie Temple Hood and husband Ron of Salem and Sally Jane Berg of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; her brother William Jennings Stockman; her sister Betty Stockman Crain; and a stepdaughter, Janice Temple.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Victor Long officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Memorials may be given to the Angels on Assignment or to First United Methodist Church (FUMC) Bell Choir and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
