J. M. McCary, 85, of Route 1, Pineland, died Sunday Dec. 24, 2000, at his residence on FM 83.
Born Sept. 12, 1915, in Shelby County as a son of the late Joseph M. and Martha J. (Belsha) McCary. McCary had lived in Sabine County most of his life and was a member of the Baptist Church. McCary had worked for Temple-Inland several years and then served several years as resident caretaker of the City of Pineland's Katherine Sage Temple Park on Maple Street.
Survivors: sons, Billy B. McCary of Pineland and Dan McCary of Harlingen; daughters, Earline Boyd of San Augustine, Dixie Smith of Fairmount, and Rose McCary of Pasadena; 12 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene McCary, Feb. 8, 2000.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Ben Gibbs pastor of the Bethel Chapel Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was at McRae Cemetery west of San Augustine.
Pall bearers: Joseph Stewart, Brandon Stewart, Vance McCary, Jeremy Boyd, Jeffrey Boyd, Jason Boyd, and David Cowee.
