Chris Aurit, for many years a resident of Rock Valley and vicinity, died at his home near Harrisburg, S.D., Sunday morning, following an illness with pneumonia. Before contracting pneumonia, he had apparently recovered from influenza, and had gone about his work again. On a rainy Sunday just a week before his death, he was out in the rain, and from the exposure, an attack of pneumonia followed, resulting in his death just a week later.
Mr. Aurit was born in Wisconsin May 15th, 1876, and was 42 years, 6 months and 26 days old. While he was yet a small boy, his parents moved to Rock Valley vicinity, where he grew to manhood and resided until three years ago when he moved onto a farm near Harrisburg. He was well known here and highly esteemed by all his acquaintances.
Besides his wife and eleven children, he leaves to mourn, his father, V. Aurit, of Rock Valley, and four sisters, Mrs. McElroy of this city, Mrs. Kate Schemmer from Nebraska, Mrs. Arthur Warren of Spencer, and Mrs. John Stengel of Canton, S.D., and five brothers, Henry, of Iona, Wis., John of New Diggings, Wis., and Jerry, Ben and Cleve of Rock Valley.
Ten of the children are at home with their mother who is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John DeSmet of Rock Valley.
Funeral services were held at Sioux Falls Wednesday. The bereaved relatives and especially the wife and children have the sincere sympathy of many friends in their great sorrow.
