Will and Mary were married June 14, 1913, at St. John Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where Will had moved to find work. He was a skilled machinist, and the family was getting along fine until he was in a car wreck and broke his pelvis. He was unable to work for nearly a year, and with (at the time) four small children to feed, he and Mary moved back to the Emporia area and lived with Mary's family. After he recovered, they moved back to Bartlesville.
Will was a machinist for Union Machine Company, Oklahoma Pipe and Supply Company, and Reda Pump in 1933 and he worked there until his death in 1940.
In December, 1940, Will caught influenza and developed pneumonia. He worsened and the doctor sent to Tulsa for an antibiotic, which was a new medicine at the time. The antibiotic failed to help and he passed away December 28, 1940 at his home at 806 Wyandotte, at the age of 49. He was remembered by his family for his sense of humor and for his willingness to share childcare and other chores with Mary at a time when men did not often fully participate in childrearing.
