Services for Alma Dierwechter, 92, Storm Lake, were held June 15, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Storm Lake. Rev. Robert Gadeken officiated. Burial was at the St. John Lutheran church cemetery, rural Albert City. Sliefert Funeral Home, Storm Lake, was in charge of arrangements. She died June 11, 1992 in Storm Lake.
Alma was born December 21, 1899 in Coon Township to Fredrich and Sophia (Otteman) Ahntholz. She was raised on the family farm and took over the household responsibilities at age 12 after her mother died. Although she had to leave school, she took a break from her household chores to study one winter in Pomeroy to be confirmed in the Lutheran church.
Alma married Alfred Nitzke in 1921. When he died, she moved to Storm Lake to work as a nurse for Dr. Swallum. In 1934 she married Art Dierwechter. The couple moved to the Dierwechter farm north of Storm Lake, where she lived the rest of her life. Alma worked as a nurse, served on the Buena Vista County Hospital Board and was active in church and community affairs. After Art died in 1987, she was president and director of the Dierwechter Farms, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister, husbands and one grandson. Survivors include four children - Everett and Betty Nitzke; Noreen Orngard; Ronald and Jewell Dierwechter; and Tanya Alkhafji; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
