Sibling Johann Jacob Allman

Gottfreid and Elizabeth Akerman Allman were one of the true pioneers of Iowa, settling in Keokuk County in 1849. Gottfreid was born in Bavaria Prussia. He came to the United States before 1847 and settled in Ohio. In 1852, his parents and two brothers made the trip to America, landing in New Orleans. The parents died of Cholera and died shortly after their arrival. One of the brothers, whose name is unknown, also died in Louisiana of Cholera.

Elizabeth Akerman was born in Bavaria, the daughter of Valentine and Maria Schreiner Akerman. Her brother John also settled in the Keokuk area

Gottfreid's surviving brother Johann settled in Wapello county, Iowa.

Last Will and Testament of Godfrey Allman of the County of Keokuk and State of Iowa made this 27th day of January A.D. 1870.

1st: I do will and bequeath to my son, Frederick Allman, one three year old bay horse and fifty dollars in money to be paid at my death.

2nd: I do will to my wife, Elizabeth Allman, the south east quarter of the south west quarter of section three (3), township seventy four (74), north of range number thirteen (13) west and all the balance of my personal property after paying my just debts and funeral expenses, and the balance of my real estate I do will to my children, Frederick, Christena, Philip, and George. My wife, Elizabeth Allman, is to have control of all of my real estate until the youngest one of my children shall become of age provided she remained my widow so long the proceeds of said land to go to the maintenance of said children until they are capable of providing for themselves. After that to be divided among them and I do appoint my wife, Elizabeth Allman, my executor without giving bond as said executor. Signed Gottfried Allman. Signed in our presence and attested by us this 27th day of January A.D. 1870, Signed Joseph Merryfield, John Akerman, and John Ritter.

***Gottfried and Elizabeth Allman were also parents to Catherine Allman, born about 1848. Catherine is not on the 1856 census, so she probably died sometime between 1850 and 1856. Gottfried Allman died of cancer of the bowels.
