She was born March 8, 1912, near Monterey, Tennessee, the daughter of Sarah Ann (Whitaker) Burtram and Lunie Dee Burtram. She moved to the Muncie area as a teenager. Lora retired from Chevrolet-Muncie in 1967 where she was an inspector. She was a member of UAW Local #499, Caleb's Kin, and AARP.
Lora is survived by one daughter; nine grandchildren; one sister, Sabrie; 25 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; two step-children; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bowen; one daughter, Loretta Sue Mixell; her brother, Riley Bertran; and two sisters, Bertha Smith and Janie Simms.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the mortuary 2-5 p.m. Saturday.
