son of Nicholas & Drucilla (Bell) Ball. Husband of Mary Emma Clark. 12 children - Francis, Arthur, Eliza "Daisy", Finley, John, Mary, Jeanette "Ned", Arminda "Minnie", Reuben, Harvey, Wade, & Ruth.
John's tombstone states his birth year as 1840 - this is incorrect. Dr. John Hampton delivered a baby boy to Nicholas and Drucilla Ball, on 7 Dec 1837, in Hamptonville, NC (was Surry County, now is Yadkin County). The 1850 Yadkin Co., NC census lists John as 13, the 1860 Yadkin Co., NC census lists John as 23, the 1870 Ashe Co., NC census lists John as 33. By 1880, the Surry Co., NC census does list him as 40, a loss of 3 years. I believe he lied about his age when he married Mary Emma Clark in 1875, as to not be such a close age to her father.
Enlisted with Co A 9th NC Cav as a resident of Yadkin County
He enlisted in Ashe County NC on 5/18/1861 aged 22.
He was in service til 12/1864.
A son that I cannot find is: FOUND!!
A HUGE Thank You to FAG member 47220553, Searchers of our Past, for not only photographing his stone but also researching him on ancestry and linking him with his parents!
