His parents were Rafael Adam (B. 1804, Baden, Germany according to Census) and Magdalena Adam nee Huntselman, b, 1802 Baden. Joseph lived in Clark County all his life except for his Civil war service : Union Army, 53rd Reg. Co C Infantry, drafted, from March - July 1865. They occupied Raleigh and marched in the Grand Review in Wash D.C. for Pres. Johnson. Family story is that a clerk wrote his name as "Adams" and later to collect his Army pension the family used that spelling. At some point he and two sons worked in a cement works. Joseph had 6 children, one died (don't know name)and 5 sons survived: Joseph Martin Adam, b.1876,who lived in Sellersburg, Geo. Francis Adams, b. Sept 1883, Alies R. ("Jack")Adam, who lived in Louisville, b. 1885, Lawrence J. Adams, b. May 1888,who lived in New Albany, and Charles Adams b. 1891, who moved to Tucson. All had children except probably Jack. I am descended from George, who is on Find-A-Grave.His son Charles J. Adams (b. 1927) was my father. There are probably a lot of Adam and Adamses still in Clark County. My grandfather, George went away to pharmacy school and settled in Gary, but he wrote to a lot of relatives in Sellersburg and Bennetsville.
