Mark Shepard was born near the present site of Hamilton, Kansas, December 24, 1871. On December 19, 1898, enlisting in the 20th U. S. Infantry. He served during 1899 in the Philippine Islands to 1901. August 19, 1903, he united in marriage to Edith Anna Conwell. They had three daughters, Martha Meredith and Vivian Leona who survived him and Agnes Roberta, who passed to the great beyond, March 4, 1922. He died in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis Missouri, May 27, 1937.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral of Mark Shepard Thursday, June 3 were; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Neer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Neer and family, Mrs. Kate Neer and daughter, Goldie of Arkansas City, Mr. and Mrs. James Ferris of Osage City, Ms. Bertie Haggerty of St. Louis, Mrs. Zoe Tilghman of Oklahoma City and Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Conwell of San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Perry Clemans of San Antonio, Texas, a close friend of the Shepard family, also attended the funeral.
