U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the law department of Washburn College in 1915, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Coffeyville, Kansas. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant, Adjutant General's Department at Brest, France. After the war, he was a member of the Kansas State House of Representatives (1927-29) and as City Attorney of Coffeyville in 1929. In 1931, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-second and Seventy-third Congresses, serving until 1935. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law. During World War II, he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army in France, where he contracted an incurable disease which calmed his life.
