George William Earle, 88, of 207-A Virginia Ave., widower of Vivian Virginia Morgan Earle, died Feb. 14, 2006, at Allen Bennett Hospital.

A native of Georgia, he was a son of the late Frederick Edward and Ada Mae Dowdy Earle. Mr. Earle was a retired U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, a retired special education teacher for The School District of Greenville County, and a retired PGA pro golfer whose friends knew him as Nick. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for 25 years, and was a Mason.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol Black of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Barry Earle of Spartanburg and Keith Earle of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Paul Earle of Greer; six grandchildren, Brian Black and Kelley Goins, both of Louisville, Ky., Michael Earle of Charlotte, Lauren Walker of Greer, and Morgan Earle and Adam Earle, both of LaGrange, Ky.; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Goins, Jackson Goins, and Evan Black, all of Louisville, Ky.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Wood Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. John Everhart. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Terry Black, Brian Black, Michael Earle, Adam Earle, Robby Goins, and David Walker.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at the Wood Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 111 Biblebrook Drive, Greer, SC 29651. -- The Wood Mortuary Inc. Published in The Greenville News on February 16, 2006
