Edwin [sic] Wilder, 70, Struck Down by Auto Driven by Leland Godfrey of Ashfield as He Crosses Road
Shelburne Falls June 30 - died at 7.30 tonight at Franklin County hospital as a result of an accident which happened near his home on the main highway in Buckland about 6 tonight. He was crossing the road to a pasture to attend his cattle.
the car was going south towards Buckland; police were informed that Godfrey saw Mr Wilder and stopped; then both [men] started again simultaneously and Mr Wilder was run down; was taken by ambulance to hospital; one of the best known farmers in Buckland and throughout this section; entire community was shocked by the accident [published Friday, July 1, 1938, Springfield Republican]
