Dennis Keith (Denny) Allen was born in Horton, Ks on June 26, 1950, to Maude Marie and Van Allen. He died October 19, 2010 at Heartland Hospital in St Joseph, MO. Between those dates he almost always lived in or near Horton. He married Gwen, April 1, 1972 – April's Fools Day, so he could remember his anniversary. They have two children and five grandsons, Matt (Robyn) Allen – Jackson and William; and Becca (Shawn) Beecham –Delaney, Dominic, and Sam. His family was the love of his life, followed closely by fishing. Denny worked many years at Gaskell Bolt, and then continued a steel fabrication business, Iron Works, in the same shop until his health declined. For the past four years he has operated a little bait shop at his home called the Fishin' Shed. Denny always enjoyed being outdoors but his favorite activities were coon hunting and fishing. After his health declined and he was unable to hunt, he could be found most mornings fishing at the lake in Horton, and then swapping stories at the coffee shop in Horton. He is survived by his wife, children, grandsons and siblings: Bill Allen of Marine City MI, Richard Allen of Horton, Mildred Pike of Basalt, ID, and Joan Moore of Manhattan, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Tony, Gary, and a brother in infancy. Denny will be remembered for his long white beard, his generous heart, his fishing, and his love of people. He will be sorely missed. A Private family burial will be at the Kennekuk Cemetery southeast of Horton, Kansas.
