Delbert D. Burris, age 79, of Elma, Iowa died Monday, October 18, 2010 at Cedar Health Center in Charles City, Iowa.

Delbert Dean Burris was born November 11, 1930 to Andrew and Ardina (Jones) Burris in Dallas Center, Iowa. He attended school in Linden, Iowa. Delbert enlisted in US Army on January 16, 1952 serving in the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge on October 15, 1953. Delbert was united in marriage to Betty Clouse on October 2, 1954 in Linden. The couple made their home in Elma, where Delbert was employed by General Telephone Company (GTE) until his retirement.

Delbert was active in his community serving as Mayor of Elma for two terms. He enjoyed fishing, fixing clocks, taking leisurely drives in the country, and people. Delbert was a member of the Elma American Legion-John Frahm Post #597.

He is survived by his former wife, Betty Burris of Charles City, Iowa; his children, Bill (Judy Zambori) Burris of Ashland, Wisconsin, Allen Burris of Allison, Iowa, Kimberly (Scott Augustine) Burris of Charles City; seven grandchildren, Melissa, and Amanda Burris, Brandon Hebert, and Jeremy, Amber, Tiernan, and Taivin Augustine; one great-grandson, two brothers, John Burris of Euclid, Ohio, and Robert (Kathy) Burris of Indianola, Iowa; and one sister, Jolene Parker of Panora, Iowa.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Luther, Clifford, and Junior; two sisters, Lucille, and an infant sister; sisters-in-law, Ann Burris, Ruthetta Burris, and Betty Burris; and brothers-in-law, Carl Parker, and Tim Ritinauer. Delbert was also preceded by his grandson Jesse, his wife, Krista, and their, Adam Burris.
