James was born April 13, 1917 in Jamestown, N.D. to George and Annette (Coleman) Stout. He attended a rural school in Jamestown, N.D. In 1936 he moved to Park Rapids.

Sept. 7, 1940 he married Olva Skorseth at Bethel Lutheran Church in Dorset. He served two years in the U.S. Army and then they moved to Pine River in 1948. In 1951 they moved to Mulvane, Kan. He was employed as a machinist at Boeing Air Craft, retiring in 1981. They moved back to Park Rapids in 1984.

James loved music and he played in a band. He enjoyed dancing, woodworking and was a mechanic. He belonged to the International Association of Machinist Union.

He is survived by his wife, Olva Stout of Park Rapids; two children, Linda Kay (Jimmie) Coffman of St. Mary, Mo. and Morris Dean (Leola) Stout of Nampa, Idaho; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, one brother and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, a son, grandson, six brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral service: was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. Pastor Stephen Norby officiated.

Casket bearers: Algene Bomstad, Cliff Branham, Ed Branham, Jeff Hensel, Hilman Jacobson and Cleo Williams.

Military honors were provided by the All Veterans Ceremonial Burial Team. Ray Vaadeland played Taps.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids, in the spring.
