ASTORIA — Born in Bandon to Kenneth Sr. and Florence G. Coats, Kenneth Loftin Jr., 82, died Oct. 11.

He went to school in Coos Bay before serving in the Air Force beginning in 1949.

He married Elaine Therien and they moved to Junction City. They later divorced.

He married Nancy E. Stimson Kankkonen on Aug. 16, 1968, in Warrenton. She preceded him in death in Sept. 2010.

He taught drafting in the h1960s and '70s at Tongue Point Job Corps Center in Astoria. He moved to Stayton in 1976. He earned a master's degree in education in 1977 and taught in Salem and Eugene school districts. He also was a vocational counselor for Oregon State Correctional Institution, retiring in 1989.

He enjoyed golf, woodworking, gardening and traveling with the '89ers Good Sam Club.

Survivors include his children, Paula (Dave) Loftin of Eugene, Ken (Mary) and Charles (Picky), all of Eugene, Richard (Clare) of Yachats; stepchildren, Lori (Tim) Dowell of Warrenton, Carol (Jerry) Dudash of Aumsville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with a reception following, at Weddle Funeral Chapel, Stayton.
