Walter "Pat" J. Rutz, 88 years, of the Town of Gardner, Brussels, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home early Wednesday morning, May 12, 2004. He was born December 23, 1915, in Gardner, the son of the late Johnathon and Louise (Spaid) Rutz.

He married Lorraine V. Herlache on May 28, 1938, at the White Star Church. Pat worked for Evangeline Milk Company, ASCS man for over 25 years, hired out for truck driving, also worked for Spude Construction Company, and Linesman for Gardner Telephone Co. Along with his wife, they also owned and operated their own dairy farm.

He was a member of the Eagles Club, and honorary member of Boy Scouts Troop 1022. Pat also enjoyed woodworking, and making items out of wood for those who could use it. He also made many countless birdhouses for family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Walter (Sue) Rutz Jr., and Dr. Thomas Rutz, all of Gardner; grandchildren, Andrew (fiance, Cheryl Uecker) Rutz of Brussels, Anthony (Genine) Rutz and their children, Elizabeth and Nate Berna of Brussels, Kathleen (Larry) Ash of Sturgeon Bay, and their children, Emily and Makayla Ash; sisters, Helen (Frank) Elek of Milwaukee, and Inez Mueller of Morrison.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2004, at Huehns Funeral Home of Sturgeon Bay with Rev. David Gill officiating. Burial will be made at Bayside Cemetery.
