Peter was the son of Christopher and Barbara Peters Clinch.

Peter Clinch, Civil War veteran, died at his home at North Java at one o'clock Fridays afternoon. He was the son of Christopher Clinch, and was born 86 years ago near Arion, Belgium, emigrating to America in early manhood. He was one of the first to answer Lincoln's call for volunteers and served throughout the North's struggle to maintain the Union in it's entirety.
At the close of the Civil War he returned to Sheldon where he lived on a farm until, owing to the advancing years he sold his property there and removed to the village of North Java. He was one of the five surviving members of the G.A.R. Buford Post in Johnsonburg, and was well and favorably known thruout the towns in which he lived. He is survived by his wife who was Miss Barbara Bauer; two sons Henry Clinch of Chaffee and John Cinch of Buffalo, and three daughters, Mrs. Lewis Becker of Strykersville, Mrs Peter Almeter of Bliss, and Mrs. Harry Hamilton of Buffalo.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10:30 o'cock from St. Nicholas church at North Java, the Rev. Max Mueller officiating. Interment in the Catholic cemetery at North Java.
