RANTOUL – Alma E. Ackerman, 92, of rural Rantoul died at 6:15 p.m. Monday (Aug. 1, 2016) at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville, with the Rev. James T. Lehmann and the Rev. Cynthia A. Bisser officiating. Burial will follow in Beckman Cemetery, rural Rantoul. Baier Family Funeral Services, Flatville, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Visitation will be prior to the service Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville.

Alma was born June 18, 1924, in Compromise Township, Champaign County, the daughter of Oltmann and Engel Thompson Blue. She married Arnold H. Ackerman on Dec. 10, 1942, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1989.

She is survived by a son, Derald L. (Florene) Ackerman of Gifford; daughter, Donna M. DeHaven of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren, Dion Ackerman of Mahomet, Michael Ackerman of Rantoul, Darren Ackerman of Carbondale and Jamie Ackerman Vermillion of Champaign; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Dick Ackerman of Little America, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Delmar Ackerman; three brothers, John Blue and Harm Blue and a brother in infancy; and four sisters, Anna Wilken, Bertha Carmien, Lena Hinrichs and Erna Ehmen.

Alma was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville, where she volunteered in the church office. She drove her personal car for years as a school bus for children attending one-room school houses. Alma was a farm wife and homemaker and was most famous for baking pies for her family and friends.

The family would like to thank all the teams at Country Health for their wonderful care and support for Alma and her family.
