George R. Bissell, 76, of Burlington died at 7 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at Danville Care Center in Danville.

Born Feb. 19, 1932, in Redfield, Iowa, he was the son of George Bond Bissell and Bertha Etta Deal. On June 7, 1959, he married Betty L. Cook in Burlington. She died Aug. 17, 2006.

Mr. Bissell worked on the production line at J.I. Case Co., retiring in 1995. He was of the Catholic faith and served in the Navy for 16 years. He enjoyed fishing all of his life. He also enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel and western movies, doing craftwork and making numerous plastic canvas projects.

Survivors include one son, Mark (Wendy) Bissell of Burlington; one daughter, Sarah Bissell of West Burlington; two sisters, Norma V. Hanify of Michigan, and Edwardine Jean Fox of Colorado; several nieces and nephews; and special caregiver Judy Wyckoff of Burlington.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Prugh�s Chapel with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Bissell will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh�s Chapel with the Rev. Terry Vance officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Russell Cemetery in Russell, Iowa.
