MECHANICVILLE Julius "Julio" Alonzo , 81, of Viall Ave., died suddenly at home Friday morning, July 2, 2010 after being stricken of natural causes. A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born November 12, 1928, son of Dominick and Caroline Cerone Alonzo , Julio began his working career at his family's store, Alonzo 's Park Food Market. He worked at the former National Cash Register Co. in Mechanicville and also worked for the NYS Office of General Services in Albany for a number of years. He was the co-proprietor of Bowlero Lanes in Mechanicville, and had a reputation of being an excellent bowling machine repairman. Julio devised and owned patents for automatic pin-setting equipment. For years, Julio assisted his late son, Lou with the operation of the highly successful Alonzo Fireworks Co., providing oversight, carpentry, and support that has taken a small fledging pyrotechnics business to achieve a worldwide reputation of excellence. A member of the Italian Fraternal Society for years, Julio was a faithful member of the Assump-tion-St. Paul Church in Mechanicville, and the Holy Name Society. Julio was an excellent bowler and bocce ball player, loved puttering around, fixing anything broken, but paramount in his life was his family, his siblings and their families, holiday picnics and parties and being proud of his Italian heritage. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Rita Zecca Alonzo ; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Alonzo ; grandson, Jeffrey (Keri) Alonzo of Mechanicville; granddaughter, Mandi (Michael) Bonner of Clifton, N.J.; adored great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Christopher Alonzo and Anna Isabelle Bonner. Also his brothers, John (Mary) Alonzo , Dominick (Midge) Alonzo , Joseph (Ellen) Alonzo ; sister-in-law, Mary Alonzo , all from Mechanicville; along with a number of nieces and nephews. Julio was predeceased by his son, Louis J. Alonzo in 2001; and brothers, Alfred, George "Louis," Anthony "Tio," Armand "Duke" and Arthur Alonzo .
