Dr. Ecob Retires from the Active Ministry
Dr. J. H. Ecob closed a pastorate of two
years with SOUTH PARISH, AUGUSTA, by
delivering his farewell sermon, “The Message
of Nature to God's Children,” a beautiful and
forceful address.
Dr. Ecob's first pastorate was with this
church, when he came, a young man, in October,
1872, remaining eight years and then leaving
to accept a call from Albany, N. Y. Later, he
was for some years associated with Dr. Josiah
Strong, in social service work. Upon his return
to Augusta, it gave his "Mother" church
deep pleasure to welcome him back, and
during this short period there have been many
additions to the church, with much spiritual
help and uplift. In retiring from pastoral
work to his home in Flushing, Long Island, he
has the love and best wishes of his many friends
in Augusta.
