Eugene Joseph Engel, age 78, of Ellis, passed away Monday, October 18th at his home. He was born on May 21, 1932 in Ellis County, Kansas to Wendelin "WA" and Rose (Philipp) Engel.
He married Melba Rose Voss on June 11, 1957.
He was a retired electrician and a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Ellis VFW, IBEW, AARP, St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Melba of Ellis; a son, Carl (Carissa) Engel of Wichita; six daughters, Charla (Randy) Schultz of MN., Caylia (Frank) Shandrick of CO., Christa (Les) Kinderknecht of Hays, Creta LaBarge and Friend (John Herman) of Hays, Chonda (Joe) Rosario of NJ. and Candra (Stan) Stelmach of TX.
Grandchildren, Brett, Brody and Bryce Engel, Allison and ShyAnne Schultz, Jennifer, Madeline (Aaron Logan) and Frankie Shandrick, Scott (Sarah) Kinderknecht, Alyssa Kinderknecht, Shawna LaBarge, Shayla (Nathan) Luea, Leland LaBarge Jr., Sondra (Tony) Huffman, Alex, Carly and Maddie Herman, Joey, Jon and Jace Rosario, Kirsten and Karissa Stelmach.

Two brothers, Leroy (Shirley) Engel of CO. and Joe (Sherry) Engel of Hays; three sisters, Betty Weigel of CO., Ellen (Joe) Farrell of Hill City and Edna Lowman of AZ. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Paul Joseph Kinderknecht, two brother-in-laws, Milton "Bud" Weigel and Dwight Lowman.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Inurnment will follow services in St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors by the Ellis VFW. Visitation and a rosary service will begin at 9:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel ~ 400 E. 17th Street ~ Ellis, KS. 67637.
