HANNIBAL - Robert E. Abbey, 62, of Hannibal, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Wesley Foster will officiate. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Abbey was born July 26, 1939, in Huntington, to Walter and Evelyne Virginia Dawson Abbey.
Survivors include a longtime special friend, Margaret Ann McGruder; three daughters, Diana Enyard, Julia Johnson and Linda Abbey, all of Hannibal; eight sons, Dennis Tate of Davenport, Iowa, Robert McGruder, Steven Abbey, Bradley McGruder, Marvin Abbey, Melvin McGruder and Marcus McGruder, all of Hannibal and PeeWee Howard of Davenport, Iowa; two sisters, Bertie Hale and Alma Jean Abbey, both of Hannibal; 42 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to include as survivors many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna Bunch and Katherine Tate; four brothers, Everett Abbey, Owen Abbey, Mack Abbey and Leon Smallwood; and two grandchildren, Lesley Abbey and Sharelle Blackwell.
Mr. Abbey was retired from Quincy Recycling. He was a Baptist by faith.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Mayfield, Robert White, Lloyd Jones, Samuel McGruder, Tate Smith and Eugene Mayfield.
