Tom was born in Syracuse and attended Central High School, joining the Marine Corps in 1954. He married the former Beverly Baird in 1958 and together they raised six children. He retired in 1993 as a truck driver for Consolodated Freightways after 23 years and was a member of Teamsters Local 317. He was a member of and historian for American Legion Post 1276. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Beverly, four daughters Dawn M Washington of Syracuse, Karen Temple of East Syracuse, Victoria E Palmer of Central Square, and Lori A Armstrong of Mattydale, two sons, Dennis M. Armstrong of Syracuse and Scott T. Armstrong of Mattydale. His father Charles T. of Syracuse, a sister, Carol J Roberts of Syracuse, two brothers, James M. of Brown Mills, NJ., and Charles T. Jr. of Oxford, Ala. and 17 grandchildren and about 7 great grandchildren. His mother pre-deceased him in 1993.
