Carrol was next to me on the day he was killed, handing me gun ammo during a firefight. He was not only a friend but a great Marine. I will always remember this day. Van Scheurich, [email protected].
Anyone who served with or knew my brother and would like to contact me please e-mail me. Kim Keehner, [email protected].
Friend and Marine, A hero in my heart. Carrol and I served in Vietnam together. I arrived in-country 31-May-67. We were grunts together. We played cards together while aboard the USS Valley Forge. On operation Fortridge Ridge, south of the DMZ, along the ocean, about 100 yds in from the beach, we were in a fire fight, Company size, on 21 Dec 1967. I was behind the M-60 machine gun cranking out rounds toward the in-coming rounds while laying in the sand. I was wounded twice this day. Carrol came up from behind me and dropped some badly needed gun ammo. That is when he was hit in the chest and died there, helping us stay alive, next to me. He was my friend. I cry to this day, when I think of this. Bastards! Semper Fi Marine, USMC 1966-69, Van Scheurich, 6288 Woodland Canton Mi 48187, [email protected], http://www.3onevet.com
He served with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, 3rd MAF.
He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
