Erve Ashburn was born January 9, 1873, to William and Samantha Ashburn, and passed away on October 16, 1970, after living most of his life in Garrnett. Of his marriage to Minnie Stiffler five children were born. He is survived by four of his children; Kenneth Ashburn, Miami, Florida; Margie Dixon, McHenry, Illinois; Orval Ashburn and Wilma McCain, Garnett; two stepchildren, Claire Schelke, Seattle, Washington; and Francis Brown, Garnett; also one sister, Mary Lee, McAllen, Texas; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A daughter, Daisy Turner, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 19, at Farris Memorial Chapel, conducted by Fr. P.R. Stevens, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Nadjy Meisenheimer was organist and accompanied soloist, Bill Craig, who sang "Rock of Ages."
Bearing the casket were: Emery Zastrow, Henry Lynagh, Ray Kilet, Sidney Higginbottom, Sam Geer and Lonnie McCain. Burial was in the Garnett Cemetery.
