Thomas was the son of John R. Jenkins & Therese Payne. He received his schooling at St. Thomas Seminary in Nelson Co., KY, & in Louvain France, where he was ordained 11 June 1870. Father Jenkins served as pastor of St. Vincent Church in New Hope, KY, just prior to his death. His mother lived with him for a while. After his mother's death, Father's niece Henrietta Jenkins was his housekeeper. They were both musical & wrote for Catholic periodicals. Father & his niece took a trip abroad & spent some time in France & Italy.
