Nell May Anderson, 96, a lifelong resident of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at her residence in Batavia. She was born June 18, 1912, in Batavia, the daughter of Tom and Nellie (nee Jervis) Hansford. She was united in marriage to Carl A. Anderson on May 5, 1944, in Batavia. She was a lifelong member of the Brethren Church in Batavia. Nell was a 1931 graduate of Batavia High School. After her husband's death in 1964, she worked at Furnas Electric until her retirement. She proudly volunteered her time to several organizations including Fox Valley Hospice for over ten years. Nell was known as a collector of teddy bears and shared her bears with family and friends. She loved people and over the years enjoyed coffee with friends and strangers at McDonalds and Dimples Donuts. She is survived by her sister, Pearl Barber of Batavia; her three sons, Terry (Lorie) Anderson of Minden, IA, and Chuck (Joan) Anderson of Merrifield, MN, and Donne Lee (Loretta) Anderson Salisbury, MD; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Nell is preceded in death by her husband, Carl; two brothers, George and Tucker; a daughter, Barbara; and two grandchildren, Matt and Eric. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008, from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon at the Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. (Rt. 31) in Batavia. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Rev. Martha Weigand will officiate. Interment will follow in the East Batavia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry, 100 Flynn Street, Batavia, IL 60510.
