Second he married Nancy Wollen on August 23, 1842 in Spencer Co., IN. She was the daughter of Trusten Wollen and Hannah Stalcop. To this union three known children were born; William Henry Harrison, Elizabeth, and Louisa.
Robert served as a soldier in some of the Indian wars and in the War of 1812 in the company commanded by Captain Walker in General Hopkins Regiment. He was a substitute for James Tate.
Robert McKim's gravesite is unknown and it is possible that he died in Spencer Co., IN., but more likely he died in Appanoose Co., IA where he appears in the Census two years before his death.
"His father, Robert McKIM was born in Kentucky in July 1798, and was reared in that state and in Indiana. He became a hunter and largely devoted his time to the hunting of wild animals with the Indians. When a young man he had served in some of the Indian wars and the war of 1812. He was married in Kentucky to Elizabeth TATE, a native of Pennsylvania, and a daughter of Samuel TATE, who also rendered his country by aiding in protecting the frontier settlements against Indian attacks.
To Mr. and Mrs. Robert McKIM were born twelve children of whom five reached years of maturity, while three are still living, those being: Alfred, of Missouri; Sarah, who is living in the same state; and John D., of this review.
The mother died in Spencer County, Indiana, and the father afterward married Nancy LAMAR, by whom he had three children, but all are now deceased. His death occurred in Spencer County [Indiana], February 23, 1862. Both he and his wife were members of the Baptist Church, and he was a Republican in his political views."
