Ed Butkiewicz grew up in Worcester, MA where he first participated in Drum Corps. He was a teacher in the Rutland Public Schools for many years. He taught middle school Social Studies and Science. In 1960, he founded the Rutland Fife and Drum Corps, an organization that provided year round activities for Rutland youth between the ages of 7-18. In later years the corps switched to a senior designation allowing members of any age to join. He was known as Mr. B to both drum corps members and his students.
