The death of Mr.Foote came as a great shock. He had been training for a commission at Camp Lee and on Wednesday would have received a Lieutenancy in the United States Army. He had been at the rifle range the forepart of last week and on the hike back to the camp he was attacked with the Spanish influenza. His condition became rapidly worse and pneumoia set in. His mother who was visiting in Delaware, was sent for and went immediately to Camp Lee.
Mr. Foote was the son of the late Jesse J.Foote, and was born at the Foote farm near here 25 years ago. He received his education at the Potsdam Normal School and St.Lawrence University. He was associated with Fred R.Rodger in the real estate and insurance business and was voluntarily inducted into the service at Clarkson last summer. He was the first man from the college to be sent to an officers training camp, Camp Lee.
His death was due in part to his hard work to win his commission. With it, it was learned at the camp he was to have been ordered over seas next week after a brief furlough at his home.
John Shea, a former student at Clarkson and a classmate of Foote at St.Lawrence, who is now training at Camp Jackson, accompanied the body here.
