Stephen William Payne was born 23 February 1967 to Stephen Joe and Constance (Walling) Payne in Bartlesville, OK. He was Baptized Catholic and attended St. John's Catholic elementary school of Bartlesville, followed by attendance at Central Junior High School. In 1982, his family moved to South Heart, North Dakota and Stephen attended South Heart High. He had learned guitar from his dad and on his own but with friend Paul formed a combo and played for their school. In 1983, his family moved to White House, Texas where he graduated from White House HS in 1985. He learned piano and played guitar and keyboard in various bands. While in South Heart, he developed Juvenile diabetes which was to plague him the remainder of his life. Stephen was in many bands, played locally in Tyler, Texas and the area. He returned to Bartlesville in 1990 but then returned to the Tyler area where he continued to perform until his death. Diabetes eventually led to his loss of sight. In 2003, Stephen became very ill from his disease and died 6 September 2003. At his request, he is buried in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, near his grandmother Bettie Louise Harris Brave (1922-1993). Stephen loved animals, especially his first Fox Terrier, Sam, whom he had from 1971 to 1980. He was bright, funny, loving and generous. He gave to others when he did not have himself. Sadly, he used drugs and spent much of his life fighting his own battle but also helping friends. He never gave up on a friend. He attended meetings for AA and other addiction issues. He was loved and he is sorely missed by all of us who knew him. Stephen Joe "Red Boots" Payne
