Battlefield: Services for Harold Dean Hendricks, 65, Battlefield, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 1999, at South Haven Baptist Church, Springfield, with the Revs. Cap Lovell and Paul Swadley officiating. Burial will be in the Kerr Cemetery, southeast of Mt. Vernon, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher.
The Rev. Hendricks died at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 23, at his home after a five-month illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1933 , in Lawrence County to R. Cecil and Ruth Kerr Hendricks. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1951 and attended SMS for almost four years. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a chemical fertilizer salesman for 11 years in northern Missouri and Nebraska, moving back to Missouri and operating the old Marshall's Store on Highway 174 near Chesapeake for two years.
He joined the ministry in 1976, pastoring churches in Dade, Lawrence and Greene counties for 17 years. He worked for KWTO for a year and a half and then spent 15 years with KWFC gospel radio, while pastoring and working part-time for the Missouri Baptist Children's Home. The past five years, he worked full-time at the Children's Home and was a fill-in pastor at various churches.
He was a member of South Haven Baptist Church, Springfield. He was active in the Mt.Vernon High School Alumni Association, helping coordinate its biennial all-school reunions. He was secretary of the Mt.Vernon High School Scholastic Foundation, vice president of the Jefferson City Missouri Baptist Foundation, a member of American Legion Post 137, and chaplain of Herb Leonard's "Steak & Shake Rhubarb Gang"
He was proceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Ann, in 1971, and by his father, Cecil, in 1969.
Survivors in clude his wife of 41 years, Joyce; a son, Reece (R.C.) Hendricks of Springfield; a daughter, Holly K. Dugan of Denton, Tex.; his mother, Ruth Hendricks of Republic; a sister, Lucille Mullins of Springfield; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be maded to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home, Hospice of Southwest Missouri or the Mt. Vernon High School Alumni Association.
