Cora May Wilson was born in Pueblo, Pueblo, Colorado to Charles Louis Derse and Eliza Belle (Fawcett) Derse. She was the baby of the family and was affectionately known as "Babe" throughout her life by family members. "Babe" grew up in Pueblo, Colorado with her sisters and brother. When she was 17-years old, the family moved to a warmer climate in Los Angeles, California. After living in California for 5 years, Babe's father Charles died of pneumonia.

On the 1 December 1923, Cora married Benjamin E. Wilson in Los Angeles, California. To their union six children were born. Cora and Ben later divorced. Cora May (Derse) Wilson died in Glendora, Los Angeles, California.
