Henry Ott, former Traer elevator manager and farmer, died Saturday at 1301 Arlington street in Davenport, Iowa at the age of 71. Although in failing health for several months, suffering principally from heart disease, he was bedfast only five days before his death. After lying in state Sunday at a Davenport mortuary the body was brought to Traer, where the funeral service was held Monday afternoon at the Boettcher Funeral Home with the Rev. Elmer J. Braun, Dysart Lutheran pastor in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Calvin Monroe and Mrs. Minnie Gipe of Dysart who sang "Rock of Ages," "Abide With Me" and "Asleep in Jesus," accompanied by Mrs. C. G Wuest also of Dysart. Burial was in Buckingham cemetery. Pall bearers w ere Emil Erickson, J. H. Hartshorn, Ferdinand Sieh, Thomas Lorenzen, F. W. Hotzel and R. C. Wood, all of Traer. Besides members of the decedent's immediate family, relatives attending the funeral from a distance included Mr. and Mrs. Otto Thiel and Mrs. Emma Kettlelsen of Everly, Iowa.
Mr. Ott was born April 1, 1869. at Pleasant Valley, Iowa. His childhood was spent in the vicinity of Davenport where he attended school. He was married to Meta Knoop who survives, at Toledo on October 3, 1893. Eight children – four boys and four girls – were born to the couple and seven are living. The surviving children are Mrs. Carl Schwartz, Mrs. John Collins Jr., and Harold, Arthur and Raymond Ott all of Davenport; Mrs. Edward Buchner of Washington D. C. and Vernie Ott of Minneapolis , Minnesota. A daughter, Leona Schoendelen, died in 1923.
Mr. and Mrs. Ott spent the first few years of married life in Davenport, later moving to Traer where Mr. Ott was manager of a grain elevator for a time. Then he purchased a farm one mile northwest of Traer which was the family home for many years. Mr. Ott left Tama county to locate in L:Ittle Falls, Minnesota moving from there back to Davenport in 1928. During his residence here, Mr. Ott won wide respect for his friendliness and honest dealing. He was particularly well known as a hunter and sportsman. The widow will give up her home in Davenport and live with one of her daughters.
