Head-on highway crash is fatal for Andrew Bello
Andrew Bello, Sand Canyon rancher and member of one of the oldest and most respected families in the valley, was fatally injured in a terrific head-on collision Monday afternoon.
The crash took place on Sierra Highway close to Forrest Park at 2:20 p.m. Mr. Bello was brought to Community Hospital after the accident, and lingered there for 24 hours, succumbing to his injuries at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.
According to C.H.P. reports Bello was northbound in his Plymouth coupe, when a southbound car swooped across the center line and slammed into him. It was a Ford coupe, believed by officers to have been driven by Robert Neria, about 25, San Pedro, Antonio Valtierra, 25, was a passenger. Both men were critically injured and were hospitalized at Newhall.

C.H.P. Officers found a witness, a Mr. Sullivan of Palmdale, who said that the Neria car passed him on the right side a moment before the crash that took place in the northbound lane.
Rosary for the deceased is to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hillburn Chapel. Requiem Mass is to be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Interment will take place in San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
Andrew Battista Bello was born July 1, 1912, on the old Bello homestead in Sand Canyon and spent most of his life as a rancher in this valley varying this with construction work. He is survived by a son, Andrew Michael Bello, his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bello and a brother, Michael M. Bello of Sand Canyon, and a sister, Feliciana Bello of Los Angeles.
