PANA � Gilbert V. Barringer, 81, of Pana died 9:15 a.m. Thursday (July 8, 2004) in Heritage Manor, Pana.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana, with Pastor Gene Colthurst officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana. Memorials: Tower Hill United Methodist Church or Pana Community Hospital Foundation.

Mr. Barringer was born July 21, 1922, in Tower Hill (Cold Springs Township), the son of Harry S. and Clara Warren Barringer. He lived his entire life in the Pana and Tower Hill area. He retired from farming in 1987. He loved farming, model railroads and yard work and was an avid reader. He hated dandelions and white clover. Mr. Barringer was a good mechanic. He was good with his hands and could fix anything. He was a member of Tower Hill United Methodist Church since 1952, where he served on church boards. He also served on the Shelby County Farm Bureau board and Tower Hill School Board. He married Rosella Berns on Feb. 18, 1941, in Pana.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Joyce Pennypacker and husband Enos �Tom� of Palm Bay, Fla.; Judy Vits and husband Donald of Pana; grandchildren, Bradley Foor, Clinton Foor, Darrin Vits and Dan Vits; great-granddaughters, Kimberly Foor, Crystal Foor, Kayla Foor, Olivia Foor, Alicia Foor, Anne Vits and Erin Vits; brother, Wendel Rodell Barringer, Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister, Irene Fringer, Assumption.

He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Eugene Barringer, in 1952; parents; brothers, Clarence Barringer and Warren Barringer; and sister, Mildred Weeks.
