Mr. Mathis was born Februay 7, 1865, at Waverly, Tenn., but had lived in Wardell for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie Mathis of Wardell; five sons, Virgil, John B., and Jewell Mathis of Wardell, Floyd of Hayti and Harry Mathis of Scopus, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Hattie Barger of Farmington, Mrs. Nora Holland of California and Mrs. Minnie Harms of Wardell; one step-son, Clarence Godair of California; 41 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Mound Cemetery, Wardell, with Jimmy Osburn Funeral Home service.
