OBIT: John Robert Ament, age 93, of Yorkville, IL, passed away on Thursday, at Bickford of Oswego, in Oswego, IL. He was born on August 8, 1919 in Mulliken, MI, the son of John Chester and Marguerite A. (Atherton) Ament. Bob was united in marriage on June 23, 1941 in Murdock, Nebraska, to Louise Bornemeier, and they spent the next 48 happy years of their lives together until her passing on April 15, 1989. He served his country proudly with the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Ament was stationed in the European Theatre, where he helped to build bridges for General George Patton. He was proud to still be able to maintain his Airplane Pilot’s License. Bob was a member of the Yorkville Congregational Church in Yorkville, IL. He was employed, for 5 years, as a Parts Manager by Homer Dickson in Yorkville, IL, and for 13 years, by the Yorkville National Bank in Yorkville, IL. Bob was also a farmer in the Kendall County Area, and served, for 20 years, on the Board of Directors of Kendall and Grundy County Farm Services. He was also a former member and leader of the 4-H Program. Mr. Ament was extremely active in the Yorkville Community, starting during the 1930’s when he was a member of the first Boy Scout Troop organized in Yorkville. He was a long-time member and President of the Yorkville Lions Club, and a recipient of its Melvin Jones Award. Bob was also a member of the Yorkville Chamber of Commerce. Bob served for nine years as a member of the Sandwich Hospital Board, and was, for 12 years, the Supervisor for Kendall Township. He also served, for many years, as a member of the Bristol-Kendall Cemetery Commission. For his loyal service to his community, Bob was awarded the Yorkville Humanitarian Award. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his son, Steven Ament, of Peoria, IL; his two grandchildren, Steven (Dawn) Ament, of College Station, TX, and Wendy (Shawn) Hale of Brimfield, IL; his great-grandchildren, Tristan and Audrey Ament, Brandon, Gavin and Autumn Hale; his brother, Donald (Beverly) Ament, of Yorkville, IL; his sister, Marjorie (Louis) Thurow, of Yorkville, IL; and his dear special friend, Anna Marie Jaruszewski of Yorkville, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Louise Marie Ament.
