Charles Frederick Dodson was born in Shanandoah County, Virginia on Dec. 4, 1841 and died at the Halstead Hospital on June 6, 1905 of asthma from which he had suffered for several years. He had just returned Sunday from Colorado, where he went for relief from his asthma and thought he would rest up for a few days at the Hospital in Halstead. His death, which was sudden, was due to acute heart failure. He married Elizabeth Francis Frye on June 22, 1850 and to this union eight children were born, all of whom except one, who died in infancy, survive him. He served four years in the confederate army, moved to Ohio in 1865 and came to Kansas in 1870 where he remained until the time of his death. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.
