Amos Benton Caldwell, aged 69 years, 1 month and 19 days, departed from this life on Thursday, May 5, 1916 at 10:30pm at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Matthews on Capitol Hill. He was the oldest of 8 children and the first to break the silver thread of brotherly ties. Born in the state of Iowa and grew to manhood there. He was married to Miss Martha Young and early in wedded life they left Iowa for Kansas. To this union were born 3 daughters and 2 sons. Mother and 1 son preceded him many years ago. After quite a lingering illness he fell asleep without a pain. Funeral was conducted by the Christian church on Sunday at 3 pm.
Survivors attending the funeral include following children, Mrs. Charles Matthews, Mrs. William Jackson, Mrs. F.A. Nelson, and F.A. Caldwell; 3 sisters, Mrs. J.B. Bentley, Mrs. J.T. Westphal, Mrs. G.W. Johnson, Mrs. Ida Young; brother, N.L. Caldwell.
The Oddfellows took charge at the grave as Mr. Caldwell had been a member of the lodge for 25 years.
