DEATH CLAIMS JOE MANSFIELD
Funeral for Joe Eli Mansfield, 63, a resident of Wasco for the past year will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Callaway Chapel with the Rev. Perry Jackman of the Wasco United Methodist Church in charge. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Mr. Mansfield died Sunday at a local hospital after sudden illness Saturday night. Born Oct. 18, 1906 in Guymon, Okla., he grew up in Joes, Colo., and was married in 1927 at Burlington, Colo., to his wife, Hilda, who survives. He was a carpenter involved in heavy construction. The family moved to Union in 1935 and lived there until they moved to Wasco a year ago. Mr. Mansfield was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners 933, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in La Grande. He was a World War II –Veteran. Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Beth) Harn of The Dalles; Mrs. Ethel Jane Rogers of Tigard and Mrs. Cleora Adkins of Wasco; two sons Harold of Vancouver, Wash., and James of Beaverton; three brothers, Glenn and Johnny of Denver and Hugh of Grand Junction, Colo., a sister, Mrs. Ruby Ridgeway of Yuma, Colo., and 12 grandchildren. Pall bearers will be Tracy Byrd, Dick Greenwood, Bob Childers, George Kirkland, Tom Givens and Ferris Timpy.
