Monona, Iowa - Hazel V. Glawe, 82, of Monona died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, in her home following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon.

Hazel V. Glawe, age 82, of Monona, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at her home in Monona. Funeral services were held Friday, August 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona with Pastor Allen Bidne officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.
Hazel Viola Glawe was born February 17, 1922, in Waukon, the daughter of Ben and Stella (Herman) Berger, part of a close knit family of six sisters and two brothers. She was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon and attended Makee and Paulk rural elementary schools and graduated from Waukon High School.
On October 14, 1939, she married Vernon Glawe and they spent their early married years living in Des Moines. After a few years they moved back to Northeast Iowa where they made their home for the rest of their lives. Along with caring for her family, Hazel established a successful upholstery business out of her home. Her hands were never idle, creating quilts, wedding dresses, needlework pictures, and many other items. She loved to cook, especially Norwegian specialty dishes. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, gardening, and reading.
Hazel was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona. She was also active in the Monona Community Club and the Republican Party.
Survivors include a son, Stanly Glawe of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; two daughters, Christine (Kevin) Krambeer of Southlake, Texas, and Cynthia (David) Angerer of Holland, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Tracy, Tammy, and Kirk Glawe, Sherry Maddox, Gregory and Katie Krambeer, and Erik, Alex, and Keegan Angerer; six great-grandchildren, Samuel, Sarah, Kallen and Carter Glawe and Grace and Jackson Maddox; three sisters, Evelyn Berge of Brazoria, Texas, Virginia Ludeking of Ames, and Carol (Paul) Quandahl of Decorah; a brother, Gary (Jeanie) Berger of Waukon; and a sister-in-law, Mary Berger of Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon, who died March 23, 2001; a son, Graham; three sisters, Lois Roskop, Betty Berger, and Dolores Morstad; and a brother, Donald.
Casketbearers were Kevin and Tracy Quandahl, David Ludeking, Tom Roskop, Ricky Berge, and Darold and Rusty Berger.
