Quay Stuefer, 92, of Columbus, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Morys Haven in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Columbus, with Rev.'s Patrick Sparling and Kurt Ebert officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Platte County Historical Society Museum.

Quay Stuefer was born June 11, 1918, in Schuyler, to Sherman and Katherine (Swickard) Stuefer. He attended grade school at District 43 northeast of Schuyler and Trinity Lutheran School. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1938. After graduation, he was employed at Donovan Implement for a short period of time before moving on to farming full time. Agriculture was his life.

He was united in marriage to Laura Eller on Oct. 4, 1948, celebrating 62 years together. They farmed northwest of Columbus. He collected John Deere and Ford Motor Company articles.

Quay is survived by his wife, Laura Stuefer, of Columbus; daughter, Ellen (Don) Still, of Columbus, granddaughters, Tammy Still, of Metarie, La., Shelly (Bill) Glaser, of Roca, and Lacy (Paul) Brooks, of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Joan (Mike) Hasenkamp, of Columbus, grandchildren, Christie Hasenkamp and Ryan Hasenkamp, both of Omaha; son, Delmar Stuefer, of Lincoln; son, Verlyn Stuefer, of Columbus; son, Gary Stuefer, of Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Virginia Vohland, of Grand Island; sister, Burdean Christ, of Grand Island; brother, Dayle (Mary) Stuefer, of Lincoln; brother, Gayle (Joyce) Stuefer, of Lincoln; and sister-in-law, Margaret Plageman, of Albuquerque, N.M.

Quay was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Katherine Stuefer; sisters, Diamond Flory, Violet Horn and Shirley Johannes; and brothers-in-law, Howard Horn, Harold Flory, Ernest Johannes, Archie Vohland, Harold Christ and Carroll Plageman.
